Social Anxiety/Phobia Support – Stress Anxiety

Stress and anxiety are both normal parts of life and are both normal feelings experienced by everyone. In little and manageable amounts these could add up to one’s capacity for production. It could give you the motivation, for example, to review for the oncoming major exam or to prepare yourself for the job interview.

OR, it could give you the extra spark to help you get out of any situation, in a way surviving an experience. However, too much stress and anxiety could be very disruptive, giving you feelings fear and dread with no apparent reasons.

Usually, stress is associated with symptoms of worry, grief and depression which often lead to cases of severe anxiety and/or anxiety disorders. However, it must be understood that not all stressors are directly linked with the above symptoms. Stress, in fact, is the body’s reaction to changes, either physical or emotional. However, in this article we would like to deal more with stress that often boils down to anxiety.

Meanwhile, anxiety is the feeling of intense worry and fear, usually without rational causes. Anxiety alone may not be considered as debilitating but once it develops into an anxiety disorder, chances are the person will have to face the rest of his life doing non-normal behaviors just to cope with the extensive anxiety he is suffering from.

Stress and anxiety is a two-way process which could be attributed to their natures. Stress is the outcome of the body’s natural tendencies to react to certain situations which makes someone feels frustrated, disappointed or angry. In a nutshell, it is a feeling of tension. It has more definite stimulus or causes. Anxiety, on the other hand, is the feeling of fear or apprehension. Often, the causes of anxiety are irrational and vague which create more stress on the part of the sufferer. Thus, when a person feels extreme anxiety there may be signs of psycho-physiological stress and when he is stressed, it is also possible that this would deliver him towards states that are marked by severe anxiety. But this is possible, only, if someone has a low level of threshold to managing stress or if specific incapacitations inhibit him from coping well to the stressors.

Therefore, the key to controlling the extent of deterioration stress and anxiety could give you is to develop the right mental attitude that is focused on the healthy management of stress.

Some known techniques in handling stress are the following:

Control of worry- Controlling the doses of worry that affects you work very well in helping you limit the anxiety that each stressor produces. For example, exaggeration of worry-provoking experiences and your reactions to them might give way to tearing down your defense for better coping.

Relaxation and meditation- These techniques could give you the leeway of analyzing the instances that create too much stress. By relaxing and regular meditation, you can accustom yourself into more relaxed states that are helpful during anxiety or panic attacks. Also, moments of relaxation could refresh you from aggravated thoughts of anxiety and stress.

Regular exercise- If it could not drive away daily stress, regular exercise could help energize your muscles and sometimes, even the mind. Exercises could also help resolve some of your conflicts. If you have social phobia and the root cause is your unpleasant body, exercising could help a great deal with providing you with means to at least answer the pressing stress of not having a beautiful body. This also gives you more confidence.

Avoidance of caffeine and alcohol- Substances that contain too much caffeine and alcohol could create chemical reactions in the body which could emphasize the anxiety/stress stimuli.

Professional consultation or psychotherapy- Seeking professional help could provide you means of coping with the stress and anxiety that delimits your daily behaviors. This would also help you discover the root causes of your stress and anxiety. Professionals also have a wider knowledge of how to effectively protect yourself from being consumed by the daily stress and your own perception of them.

Medications and supplements- Through the help of some synthetic and natural substances found in medications and drugs, stress and anxiety could be limited to “bite-size” doses.

BUT, one of the best techniques to control stress and anxiety is through controlling the input of stress and anxiety into your own system and by confronting the very things that trigger these reactions. Sometimes, it helps to know that by diverting your fears and worries into more productive mediums, you can condition yourself to face the things that scare your or give you the feelings of giving up.
